The onyx pc 4x2.5G is very good. I liked the configuration, quality of parts, aluminium case and accessories. It runs warm though, as a fanless tiny unit, it was expected.
Accessories include a 12v/5A delta adapter of very good quality, a hdmi cable and a wall mounting kit.
The mini pc is populated with 8gb ddr5 sodim from Samsung and 256gb SSD from LuminouTEK. Everything else was there in the package as promised.
I had no issues, when powering on. Just connected HDMI port to monitor, powered it on and got a working windows 11 PC.
I could also run Ubuntu 24.1 without any issues, default installation took care of all the hardware.
It consumed around 12 watts of power when idling and around 23 watts on full load. The N100 processor could run at 3.3 GHz+ when loaded on single core and at 2.9GHz when all cores were loaded. This is as expected. No thermal throttling was seen.
At full load (playing a 4k video and running sysbench cpu on all 4 cores), the cores reached a maximum temperature of 75 degree Celsius (at ambient of 25 Celsius). The case reached a maximum temperature of 52 degree Celsius. This makes touching the case little uncomfortable. As a fanless unit, I knew what I had signed up for. Just make sure there is enough air flow around the unit and don't stack anything on top of it.
As far as the performance is concerned, it was pretty good for the price. I tried browsing, watching videos and opening few apps. Everything went as expected.
I would have preferred a manual to go along, a softcopy or hardcopy. The RTC coin battery is not attached to the board which makes changing it in future little cumbersome.
Had delays in product shipment, when I escalated it they handled it. But with little streamlining of communications and proactive actions, it could have been avoided. I reduced a star for that and lack of documentation. Otherwise it's all good so far.
